About Pearls

The Culture of Pearls...

Most treasures are found in freshwater.

Cultured freshwater pearls were first grown in Japan in 1914, and have enjoyed consistent popularity throughout the 20th century. Freshwater pearls are typically harvested from mussels, yet the luminosity of these pearls is identical to the shine of a pearl from an oyster.

Don't go Broke, Go Baroque!

Wear pearls without breaking the bank.

When a pearl takes on an irregular shape, It is known as a baroque pearl. These unique little treasures are made of the same substance that constitutes a normal pearl, but are shaped in such a way that makes them stand apart from the typical teardrop or spherical pearl.

Basic Pearl Care

These simple actions will keep your pearls looking fresh!

Have you noticed that some of your older strands of pearls are losing their luster? Follow these tips to extend the wearable life of your new pearl jewelry.

Tip 1: They're not rocks
Pearls are made of mostly organic substances and are extremely susceptible to damage from chemicals. Perfumes, hairspray, and even soap can cause pearls to lose their luster and in some cases even turn brown! Be sure that when you apply perfume to your body, you avoid the areas on which your pearls will rest.

Tip 2: The more you "glow", the less your pearls will!
Perspiration can cause pearls to deteriorate over time. This can be avoided by wiping down your pearls with a light linen cloth after wearing.
